Week 15 Injury Report

Written By: Boris Krutiy

Rob-Gronkowski2

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Well some of these injuries this week could greatly affect their teams as we come to the end of a long season and into the playoffs. You never want to see a great player get hurt, even if you may be on the other side of the ball.

Rob Gronkowski, who has been fighting injuries most of his career has once again been bitten. I would never call him fragile or injury prone but this is a big, physical TE that spends his days in the middle of the field. To avoid concussions, the NFL has put in rules so that there is no head hunting and to help protect QBs and ‘defenseless’ receivers. So we do not often see safeties come flying in head first anymore into the upper body. Instead they go for the legs and unfortunately this includes the knees. We are starting to see players get knee injuries more often because of this and Sunday was a clear indication that we will probably see further rule changes by the NFL. Just watch… Baseball has the strike zone. Football will have the hit zone and will be similar… Above the knee and letter or to translate to football understanding… Number high!

Patriots placed TE Rob Gronkowski on injured reserve with a torn right ACL and MCL, ending his season. The injury was suffered on a low hit by Browns safety T.J. Ward in Sunday’s game. He was carted off the field and will be, once again, on the shelf long-term. This comes with a heavy impact to the Patriots outcome this year. They were able to make the comeback win by scoring twice in the last minute of the game but ultimately, losing Gronkowski means that their playoff run will be a lot more difficult than with him. I do not see New England Patriots getting far in playoffs, but they will get in.

Another player to suffer a similar fate on Sunday was Jonathan Stewart of the Carolina Panthers. Stewart was injured when tackled in the lower right leg by Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis in the third quarter at the Superdome. It’s been a rough season for Stewart, who missed the first seven games of the year on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle injury. I would think a torn MCL means out for the rest of the year but according to coach Ron Rivera, Stewart will be out a minimum of 2 weeks but they are optimistic he could return at some point this season or for the playoffs. Stewart’s lack of production or even playtime this year should not heavily affect Carolina.

Minnesota Vikings lost a tough game on Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens in deep snow. To make matters worse, they had a number of key injuries including an ankle/foot injury to Adrian Peterson. It was feared that he may have broken his foot but there is no indication of a break at this time. Further tests are pending. It is tough to see a player like Peterson get hurt but the Vikings were not going anywhere this year so this does not hurt them, if anything it help them because they will most likely have trouble winning without Peterson which will only improve their 2014 NFL Draft position and allow them to maybe pick up a franchise player that will help them.

Other Injuries include that could impact their teams include Wes Welker who sustained a concussion and due to a short week is unlikely to play in the Thursday Night game against the San Diego Chargers.  Peyton Manning has so many other weapons on offense, I doubt Welker will be missed for one game.

During warm ups on Sunday, Reggie Bush aggravated his calf injury and though he will probably be ready to play on Sunday, his status is currently unknown. Losing Bush for even one game is hard on the Lions. he does a lot on Defense and though Joique Bell is an adequate replacement for the short-term, they will need Reggie Bush back and healthy to make a run in the playoffs.

Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) has yet to be medically cleared, and will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. Honestly, they should shut him down for the season. They have lost too many games and have no chance of getting to the playoffs. Why risk another injury to your Franchise player in meaningless games.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was noncommittal Monday when asked whether Robert Griffin III will start in Week 15 against the Falcons. It’s now possible Kirk Cousins will start after Griffin was benched in Sunday’s blowout loss to Kansas City. Shanahan also refused to answer questions on whether he wants to coach the Redskins in 2014. As we all know, he will most likely be fired at the end of the season

Week 14 Injury Update

Written By: Boris Krutiy

On Friday, a lot of decisions where made on whether certain injured players would play or not. As well as some questions still remain. Here we will take a look at key gamechangers that will affect the outcome of their teams matchup based on their participation.

carsonPalmer

Arizona Cardinals
Carson Palmer (elbow) is a game-time decision for Sunday’s game against St. Louis, though coach Bruce Arians said he’s “sure” Palmer will be “ready to go.”

gronkusa-515x387

New England Patriots
Rob Gronkowski (forearm) is Fantasy Football’s No. 1 overall tight end and is in no danger of missing Sunday’s game even though he is still recovering from, count them, FOUR forearm surgeries.

OrangeJulius

Denver Broncos
Julius Thomas (knee) has been practicing the last few days without limitation. Barring a setback, Thomas is now on track to return for Sunday’s game against the Titans. Thomas likely could have played in Week 13, but the Broncos decided to play things safe.

percy-harvin-doubtful

Seattle Seahawks

It was announced that Percy Harvin (hip) will be out for their NFC showdown with the San Francisco 49ers. They could (and should) hold Harvin out until the playoffs to avoid further issues with the hip. That would give Harvin an extra month to rehab the hip and come back stronger.

dm_131204_nfl_werder_rodgers_update

Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers (clavicle) has officially been ruled out of this weeks matchup against Atlanta. He will most likely play next week.

PonderConcussion

Minnesota Vikings
Christian Ponder (concussion) has been ruled out of this week’s game against Baltimore Ravens. Matt Cassell will start for the Vikings.

cutler hurt

Chicago Bears
The Bears have ruled out Jay Cutler (ankle) for the MNF matchup with Dallas. Josh McCown will be ready and able.

jasonCampbell

Cleveland Browns

Jason Campbell (concussion) has been cleared by doctors and will start against New England Patriots. Not many are starting Campbell, but Josh Gordon owners should be very happy that it will not be a second or third tier QB out there unable to get the ball into the playmaker’s hands. Even still, Gordon will need to face Aqib Talib who will limit Gordon’s damage. I do not see him putting up a third straight 200+ yard game, maybe 75 yards with a TD.

Two Bear claws are Better than One

Jay Cutler or Josh McCown

jay-cutler-josh-mccown

Though Cutler has not been cleared to play yet against Dallas on MNF, he is scheduled to prove he is capable to take his starting job back to the coaches come Thursday. If he passes all tests and is cleared, it may be Cutler throwing bombs instead of McCown but if possible, I would hold onto both QBs until the last minute to see who is going to get the starting job. it could go either way. Personally, I would give Cutler an extra week to heal considering McCown has put up back to back 350+ yards and 2TD games and will surely do the same again on MNF against a horrible Dallas pass defense. The biggest difference between the two QBs and this is where it will matter in Fantasy leagues is that Cutler prefers Brandon Marshall and McCown prefers Jeffries. I think that those that have Jeffries, like myself, will see his production go down if Cutler is starting while Marshall owners will be happy for the added production.

Jay Cutler or Josh McCown in Week 15? Who does this decision affect the most in Fantasy Football? Owners of Alshon Jeffries and Brandon Marshall. Marshall is clearly Cutler’s favorite receiver while McCown has been able to spread the ball and show that Jeffries can be a big part of this offense. Just to show the difference, Here are Jeffries’ and Marshall’s statistics with Cutler vs. McCown (not including injury shortened games). You can plainly see that Cutler prefers Marshall in the Red Zone while McCown prefers Jeffries.

With Jay Cutler at QB (Weeks: 1-6)
Brandon Marshall – 455 Total YDS, 5 TDs
Alshon Jeffries – 486 Total YDS, 2 TDs

With Josh McCown at QB (Weeks: 7, 9, 11-14)
Brandon Marshall – 456 Total YDS, 2 TDs
Alshon Jeffries – 623 Total YDS, 4 TDs

Weekly Preview and Injury Report

So everyone and their mother is talking about Tomlin’s bonehead move during last Thursday Night’s game versus the Baltimore Ravens. In my opinion, this was a bullshit play and as you can plainly see on the replay, he has his back to the play that is right next to him and then he is shown smiling and laughing afterwards. In my opinion, he should be fined and suspended for this but why is everyone talking about this. What about the vicious hit on Bell near the end of the game. That was clearly a helmet to helmet and Bell was definitely in La La Land as he was escorted off the field…”Mommy, are we in Disneyland?” Seriously, that could have been really bad for the youngster. he has a concussion and may not play in week 14.
